Memory Assessments & Support

Memory difficulties are not a natural part of the ageing process, however, as we age some people will notice a decline in their ability to recall information or to remember events/appointments. If you have concerns about your own memory or you have noticed changes in a family member or someone you care for then it is wise to seek assessment and advice.

Some people may have already received a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) if they have problems with their memory, thinking, language or the way they see and interpret things. People with MCI have an increased risk of developing dementia, in others the symptoms sometimes improve.

There are many different types of dementia and symptoms may include memory loss, planning, problem solving and language difficulties and sometimes changes in mood and behaviour.

Memory Assessments & Support

SP Therapy Services offer a comprehensive assessment service which could include a cognitive assessment and assessment of a person’s ability to function within their own environment.

Our Occupational Therapists are able to offer advice around memory strategies/assistive technology, for example, the use of a diary or medication reminder, as well as basic equipment or adaptations to allow someone to remain safe and independent at home for as long as possible. We will work closely with carers and family members to support them and introduce them to local support services if required.
