Physiotherapy for Older Adults
As we are living longer physiotherapy strives to ensure that those that live longer, live well!
As we get older we get weaker, slower and stiffer. Stroke, brain injury, dementia, Parkinson’s, arthritis, frailty, blood pressure problems, diabetes and many other conditions can make things even worse.
Physiotherapy is of course unable to stop the ageing process, but it can sure help to slow it and reduce the impact on the body and mind as well as to improve day-to-day functioning by addressing changes before they become problematic.
Phyiotherapy works for:
- Muscle weakness and joint stiffness
- Bone density maintenance
- Poor posture
- Decreased levels of mobility and balance
- Deconditioning – decreased physical fitness due to reduced activity
- Loss of confidence and a fear of falling and going outside to community
- Diabetes, blood pressure and respiratory difficulties
At SP Therapy Services our Physiotherapists assess and provide advice on all aspects of mobility including walking, getting in and out of bed, on and off the floor, climbing stairs as well as any aspect identified by the individual.
Our Physiotherapist will provide education and advice on the benefits of exercise and where appropriate signpost the individual to appropriate community based activities.
The Practice actively supports Older Peoples Day on 1st October each year, link to our most recent event. Watch our news blog for details as to how we will be involved this year.
We can provide home visits & clinic appointments.
SP Therapy Services take great care in providing an exceptional standard of therapy to all our patients, whatever their individual age, diagnosis or location.
