Susan Pattison and Anna Ziemer both submitted abstracts for poster at this prestigious event and were accepted.

Susan Pattison: Hydrotherapy- Taking The Plunge

Susan’s poster provided detail of the Practices highly successful collaboration with Bolton Neuro Voices. Since 2012 we have provided more than 140 people living with neurological conditions in the Bolton and surrounding areas with the opportunity to try hydrotherapy in our local state of the art facility at Bolton One.

Since 2012, Seven, 5-week physiotherapy led courses have been fully booked and participation levels have been at 83%. In 2014 the project was extended to provide those who were safe and able to do so with a continuation programme in which participants were supporting each other and without the presence of a physiotherapist.

The keys to the success of this project – and its continuation programmes – are the constant dialogue between SP Therapy Services and BNV and the feedback received from participants after every session and via the End-of-Course questionnaire.

Anna Ziemer: Effect on Exercise-based Falls Prevention Courses on Mobility and Confidence

Anna’s poster featured details of her Falls Prevention Class which has already featured in 2 recent publications from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Anna’s poster demonstrated both subjective and objective marker improvements in all the participants of the six-week class and how she addressed the multi-factorial components that place an individual at risk of falling.

Anna, as our Balance Champion and Clinic Based Physiotherapist, understands the risks and how to employ successful strategies to reduce the risk and fear of falling in patients living with neurological conditions. Our next Falls Prevention Class starts 22nd May 2018.
